“RETURNING DATE ANNOUNCED!” — William Saliba Update Gives Arsenal Fans Hope
“RETURNING DATE ANNOUNCED!” 📣🔥
William Saliba’s long-awaited return has become one of the biggest talking points among Arsenal supporters, with fans desperate to see the French centre-back back in Mikel Arteta’s defence.
However, despite growing optimism surrounding his recovery, Arsenal have not yet announced a definitive comeback date for Saliba.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a back injury while representing France at the 2026 World Cup. Arsenal subsequently confirmed that specialist examinations had ruled out surgery and that Saliba would instead begin a carefully managed rehabilitation programme. The club described the expected absence as an “extended period.”
That cautious approach has continued into the new Premier League season.
Saliba has yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal this campaign, meaning the champions have had to rely on alternatives in central defence. Ezri Konsa and Cristhian Mosquera have both been used alongside Gabriel Magalhães, while Arsenal also strengthened their defensive depth during the summer.
The latest positive sign is that Saliba’s recovery has been progressing.
Earlier in September, Arteta said the defender’s rehabilitation was moving in a positive direction, although he stressed that Arsenal needed to monitor how Saliba reacted when greater physical loads were introduced. As a result, the club has continued to avoid committing to a precise return date.
That caution is understandable.

A back injury can require careful management, particularly for a defender who relies heavily on acceleration, changes of direction, physical duels and repeated high-intensity movements.
Arsenal will therefore have little reason to rush their star centre-back back before he is fully ready.
There is nevertheless encouragement for supporters.
Saliba was included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the league phase, indicating that the club expects him to become available during the European campaign. That does not provide a guaranteed comeback date, but it is a positive indication of Arsenal’s expectations for his recovery.
The timing of his eventual return could be particularly important.
Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season against Brighton, losing 3–0 at the Amex after conceding three goals for the first time since December 2023. The performance prompted significant discussion about the defensive structure and the need for Arteta’s team to respond.
Saliba’s return could therefore provide a major boost — but Arsenal cannot afford to treat him as an immediate solution to every problem.
The club's medical team will ultimately determine when he is ready to return to competitive action.
For now, the message is one of progress rather than a confirmed date.
Arsenal supporters can look forward to seeing Saliba back in the squad, but the priority should be making sure the defender returns fully fit rather than rushing him into action.
After the international break, Arsenal are scheduled to face Leeds United on October 10, giving Arteta and his staff several more weeks to assess their injured defenders.
Could that period prove enough for Saliba to take another major step toward his comeback?
Gunners fans, how important will William Saliba’s return be to Arsenal’s title defence? 🔴⚪👀
